The Vice Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee and a Vice Chair for the Congressional Progressive Caucus, he also serves on the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee and the Committee on House Administration.

Rep. Raskin has been a constitutional law professor at American University Washington College of Law for 25 years and is Co-Founder of the acclaimed Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project. He’s the bestselling author of “Overruling Democracy: the Supreme Court versus the American People” and “We the Students: Supreme Court Cases for and About Students.”

Prior to his election to Congress, Rep. Raskin was a Maryland State Senator and the state’s Senate Majority Whip. As a State Senator, he won a reputation for building creative coalitions to deliver landmark policies. He successfully introduced and championed marriage equality; abolition of the death penalty; restoration of voting rights to former prisoners; the nation’s first National Popular Vote law; the nation’s first Benefit Corporations Law; Noah’s Law ; the Green Maryland Act and more.

In 2009, then-State Senator Raskin made the original suggestion for COK’s VegWeek, an international campaign that inspires thousands to try meatless eating for at least one week each year.
