Bring your appetite, but leave your backpack at home.

The DC VegFest, one of the nation’s largest vegan festivals, is coming up on Sunday, August 11, at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.  This is a new and exciting venue for our event, and with it comes new information — and new rules (including security checks to keep everyone safe).

Here’s everything you need to know to make the best of it!

Cost: It’s always FREE to attend! There will be lots of vendors selling food and other items, most will accept credit cards.  ATMs are available on-site.

What can I expect to see there? Over 115 exhibitors , engaging speakers and cooking demos.

How do I navigate the park? To find out where your favorite vendors and organizations will be located, as well as where to find the Main Stage, Kids’ Zone, and Info Booth, consult the DC VegFest Exhibitors Map! Limited copies of maps will also be available during the event at the DC VegFest Info Booth.

Is the event kid-friendly? Definitely! Our Kids’ Zone will offer day-long activities as well as a super cool jungle gym. Diaper changing stations and a maternity lounge is also available.

Is it dog-friendly? Yup! Dogs who are happy and calm around others are welcome, though they must be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs are the only non-human animals permitted. At the event, you’ll find a designated Barking Lot offering water, treats, and clean-up bags.

Parking & Metro: There is limited parking for attendees starting at 10:30 a.m., available on a first come, first served basis in Nats Park Garage C, entrance on 1st St SE. Street parking may also be available. We strongly encourage attendees to use public transportation, ride bikes, or car-share.  The park is accessible from Metro’s Navy Yard-Ballpark station on the green line. It is a short walk from the station.

Accessibility: Nationals Park has wheelchair accessible entrances, accessible ATMs, drinking fountains, elevators, ramps, and telephones with TDD. For more information regarding accessible drop-off and elevator locations, please see the Nationals Park accessibility guide. We will have ASL interpreters for our Main Stage speakers.

New for 2019 – Security:  The DC VegFest is held inside of Nationals Park; access is controlled by stadium security and all attendees must enter through the main entrance on N St. and will be required to go through turnstiles, bag checks, and metal detectors. Backpacks are not permitted. Per Nationals Park security, here is a full list of restrictions:

  • DC VegFest

Don’t get turned away! Backpacks are NOT allowed in Nats Stadium. Diaper bags and purses ARE permitted!

Knives, box cutters, and anything considered a weapon are not permitted in the park

  • No backpacks are allowed (security will not allow you to enter the park with a backpack) – other bags including diaper bags are permitted (see Nats Park full bag policy). Lockers will be available outside the stadium for a small fee to secure your backpack/bookbag if you accidentally bring one.
  • All boxes and bags will be searched
  • All food and water coming into the park must be pre-packaged, sealed & unopened. Empty, re-usable water bottles are permitted.
  • This is a fully vegan event–please do not bring any foods containing  animal-derived ingredients
  • Guests may not wear costumes or face masks
  • Alcohol is not permitted at the DC VegFest
  • Dogs are allowed, but no other companion animals are permitted

Rain Or Shine: The DC VegFest is a rain or shine event. Nationals Parks has indoor and covered spaces and the event will continue if it rains.

IMPORTANT UPDATE – FREE Loaded Tote Bags: This year, in order to better manage the crowds, we’ll be giving out special tote bag tickets to the first 1,000 people to arrive (N St entrance) — tickets will be given out as the line starts to form. There is no specific or scheduled time — the line forms when people start to show up; in the past it’s been as early as 7:45/8am We cannot guarantee a time or ticket availability and we don’t expect these tickets to last long … Once you have a ticket, you can leave — we will start handing out free bags at the DCVF Info Booth to all ticket holders at 11am, and you must pick up your bag before noon.

Keep in mind we will also be selling (empty) DC VegFest commemorative tote bags for $5 after we have given away the 1,000 goodie bags!

NEW THIS YEAR: OUR VIP LOUNGE! If you have purchased a VIP ticket, you will not have to wait in line for a loaded tote bag. Your tote will be waiting for you in the air-conditioned VIP lounge. If you have purchased a spot in the VIP lounge, you can go through the security turnstile on the furthest right hand-side, as indicated by signage. When you go past the turnstiles, the lounge will be to your right.

  1. Hey not from DC but I’m planning on coming to this event how is public transportation n how do I get on the train coming from columbia. MD

    1. You can go on WMATA website and that will give you some information. There is a bus that picks you up from Columbia mall that takes you to Laurel, MD and then another bus from there. If you could it might be easier to drive and park at Greenbelt station and use the train from there.

  2. I saw that no alcohol from outside is permitted. Will there be a beer garden this year? Or is this no longer a part of veg fest?
