Howard Edelstein has worked as an animal advocate for numerous organizations as an employee and a volunteer for the past three decades. He has a background in emergency management and works with several organizations caring for animals during disasters and cruelty cases.
Howard will be reading his newly-published novel “Ready or Not, Here It Comes!” at the DC VegFest – a book which emphasizes the importance of including companion animals in emergency preparation plans. It tells of the Lee family preparing for a hurricane, and what happens when it strikes. The book discusses how to prepare for all types of disasters to safeguard families and the animals in their care. With the ever-increasing occurrences of natural and man-made disasters, it is vital for everyone to be aware of how best to plan and prepare for themselves and their companion animals. The story educates children and their parents in an engaging and non-alarming way.
Howard has also written “Scooter Strays,” an interactive children’s book about the dangers a stray dog faces. Howard shares his home with his five cats. He has made plans for them in the event of a disaster.
