More than 10,000 people — including civil rights leader and US Congressman John Lewis — gathered at the beautiful waterfront Yards Park for the 2013 DC VegFest to celebrate vegan eating, enjoy engaging speakers and cooking demos, browse over 100 exhibitors or vendor shops, and of course, eat! “This event was excellent! Get ready to eat: this year’s DC VegFest aims to please every palate with a variety of vendors and free samples! Bring your appetite — and some friends to help you carry some of the goods home with you. Our First Veggie Obstacle Course: Are you and your friends ready for the challenge?

If you’re feeling energized and want to show-off your DC VegFest plant-based power, we’ve got the event for you: new this year, we’re featuring a veggie obstacle course! Open to everyone regardless of your athletic prowess (limited spots are available though), competitors will put their fruit-peeling and cupcake-eating skills to the test. How does it work? The course allows four contestants to compete at one time. We’ll run 3 heats, for a total of 12 contestants. The best part? The winner (whoever finishes fastest) in each heat will receive... This annual celebration is just around the corner, so we wanted to share some exciting news highlighting that there’s something for everyone at the DC VegFest! This year, by popular demand, we’re expanding upon our kids’ activity area. In addition to face-painting, temporary tattoos, and story-telling, we’re adding in some games, such as a bean bag toss. One in eight households in Washington, DC struggles with hunger, and DC has one of the worst hunger rates in the nation for families with kids being unable to afford enough food — staggering statistics that many wonderful organizations are trying to change.
