Help Us Fight Hunger: DC VegFest is Hosting a Vegan Food Drive!

To be without food is an unimaginable hardship for any of us. Yet one in eight households in the DC-Metro area struggles with hunger every day. Thankfully, there are many wonderful organizations working hard to change this, and the DC VegFest is excited to partner with one of them for this year’s event: Nourish Now!

Together, our goal is to help raise awareness about food insecurity while also bringing healthy vegetarian food to families in need. We’re doing this in two ways:

The DC VegFest is hosting a vegan food drive! Last year’s food drive was a huge success with nearly 350 pounds of food donated. We need your help to make this year’s food drive even more plentiful.. It’s as simple as throwing a few unopened, vegan, nonperishable food items (such as canned fruits or veggies, soup, cereal, etc) into a bag on your way to the event.  Nourish Now will be there to collect everything, so you can drop it off anytime at their booth.

Nourish Now will also collect any surplus fresh-food from our vendors at the close of the festival.  This surplus food will then be distributed to families in need, shelters, food banks and other organizations that assist in feeding the hungry. This not only provides nourishment to those who can’t afford to buy enough food, it also helps to reduce food waste that would otherwise be disposed of in landfills.

Be sure to sure to share this news with your friends and family – and we look forward to seeing you soon at the DC VegFest!
